A little temptation…

By Stacey-Marie | February 9th, 2011 | One Comment

As a wedding planner I get to meet and talk to all sorts of wonderful wedding suppliers. I thought I would do the odd ‘supplier focus’ along the way to showcase talent, ideas and the love each supplier has for weddings, their trade and delighting their clients!

Emily of Tempting Cake was one of the first suppliers I met, introduced via a work colleague of Mr C! So it seems fitting to have Tempting Cake as the first ‘supplier focus’. Tempting Cake provide a bespoke wedding cake, cupcake and cookie service throughout London and the surrounding counties. They pride themselves on their cakes tasting as good as they look, using the best quality ingredients and always being freshly baked to order (I can vouch for how moist and moreish the cupcakes are!). Emily has kindly answered some questions, so read on to find out a bit more about Emily and see some of her yummy and beautiful cakes!

Where/ how did your passion for cakes begin?

I’ve always loved baking and long had an interest in design, so cake design seemed the perfect way to combine two passions.  I dabbled in it as a hobby for many years building up my skills, and gradually indulged it more and more until I was able to make it my career.  My interest in wedding cakes grew further when I got married, as I was so inspired by the beautiful creations I saw in wedding magazines and on blogs.

Which famous person would you most like to bake a wedding cake for and why?

For her unique sense of style and reputation as a true British style icon, it would have to be Kate Moss.  You just know that she wouldn’t be afraid to go for something completely different and would pull it off with panache. I’d also love to design a wedding cake for the newly-engaged Natalie Portman.  She always looks classic and elegant and exudes a similar timeless style to old Hollywood stars Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn.

What is the best tip you have for choosing a wedding cake supplier?

As with all wedding suppliers, it’s really important to choose someone you have a rapport with and whose style is aligned to your taste and your wedding.  Working on your dream wedding cake with someone who inspires you and who you get on well with makes it a much more pleasurable experience all round.

Where/ who do you get your inspiration from for your wedding cake designs?

Anywhere and everywhere! If we’re designing for a new collection then a design motif on wallpaper or a greetings card might spark an idea.  If we’re creating a bespoke cake for a bride then detail from her dress, jewellery or flowers usually generates a design.  We’re finding that as wedding themes evolve they are becoming ever more specific, with brides seeking cakes inspired by anything from Alice In Wonderland to a designer’s catwalk show or even flamingos for their big days.  These themes provide rich territory for some truly bespoke and original wedding cake ideas.
